VAMPIRE LOVER PLOT SYNOPSISTHE CONCEPTVAMPIRE LOVER is smart, sexy, funny, romantic and, above all, frightening.Veneered with the vernacular of the street, VAMPIRE LOVER is spiritual and moral at it's core. It is about half lives, half truths and hollow victories; sacrificing your soul to recover your heart. Scarred, disfigured and disturbed are adjectives that describe the four central characters of VAMPIRE LOVER. They are the invisible "throw aways" of society.
Three of them will will make choices of dire consequence based solely on physical beauty, one will take a chance on her heart, and all will be challenged to accept and make sense of the consequences. Their immortal souls hang in the balance. Who will be transformed, who transfigured, who damned? Can courage transcend damnation? VAMPIRE LOVER answers these questions and more, including, "Is there sex after death?" THE PLOTThe story line follows the four day trajectory of a major northeaster battering a New Jersey beach resort and the horrifying evolution of the strange alliances forged at the height of the storm. After her husband's death,Vera Manzetti realizes all she has inherited are his debts, his surveillance business and his secret liaison with a vampire. Bone comes to the island prepared to break and enter, get drunk and commit suicide. He is thwarted when Vera, hired to check storm damage for a local realtor discovers him squatting in a magnificent beach front mansion . Vera is powerfully attracted to Bone despite his facial disfigurement. She covers for him. Astonished and relieved to find another person who will accept him, Bone decides that despite her fifteen year seniority, he feels something for the stranger who had suddenly changed his life. When Vera offers him a job he immediately accepts. Meanwhile, Harry, the vampire, is considering throwing ten years of caution to the wind. His last five years have been spent utterly alone. His female multiple, Harriet, has abandoned him to his carnage, leaving him starved for companionship. Phoebe Wilkes, a.k.a. Little Fibs, unwittingly fills the bill when she hauls ass onto the island during the squall with the police on her shapely tail and a predator's need to go to ground. Harry sets her up and knocks her down. He makes her a vampire, blissfully unaware of the depth of her madness, and before you can say oops she sets about tearing down both Harry and his sporting system of hunting. She is a stone killer who enjoys the act of dismemberment. Harry, appalled by the depth of her depravity, fears he has made a horrible mistake. Harry's troubles are compounded when Little Fibs, increasingly out of control, kills Vera's best friend (and hairdresser) Wayne. This prompts Vera to confide to her new friend, the tough customer Bone, her suspicions concerning her late husband's possible alliance with a vampire. They agree to stake out a house where Vera believes the vampire will strike again. They also declare their love for one another. The battle lines are drawn as the star crossed couple take on the evil undead and change all their realities forever. Harry is redeemed by the intercession of his long silent multiple, Harriet, who seizes the golden opportunity to plot the end game, and Little Fibs is destroyed by her monstrosity and arrogance. The climax is instant karma time for psycho bitch. Good triumphs over evil, but not until the forces of darkness exact their pound of flesh, and the sequel is assured. PRAISE FOR VAMPIRE LOVER"Steven King, be afraid - be very afraid.
As Zoon says in her prologue, 'The nightmare landscape of our existence is carved into my heart.'It would be a foolish publisher who denied her." "Vampire Lover is a beautifully written, evocative tale that you just can't put down.
Move over Anne Rice, Susan Zoon's work is just better. -Herman Silverman, board chairman, James A Michener, Art Museum. COMING ATTRACTIONSRED MISTRESS (sequel to VAMPIRE LOVER)There was a river of blood between them that their passion could never bridge. Bone's red mistress ruled him. It was the one obstacle Vera's love could not surmount. A boy named Lethal, enslaved by the mistress, enthroned in pain, will channel the energies of the most powerfully evil financial empire in the history of the planet, and on the eve of the millennium, destroy it. Only one thing stands in the way of their redemption. The Dark Empty. Cheating the dirt nap is not all it's cracked up to be. PLANTING FORGIVENESSA tale of two sisters. Miranda, the eldest, is a dwarf gifted with second sight, cursed by deformity. The younger, Forgiveness, is beautiful beyond the realm of legend, evil beyond imagining. The vampire novel is set in the sixteenth century against the backdrop of chivalric ballads and the infamous Eastern European witch craze. PLANTING FORGIVENESS is a Medieval story with surprising relevance to the computer age. Nuns and midwives, priests and nobles, vampires and knights, struggling to control birth records (the basis of taxation), information, education, religious freedom and human souls. |
